Washington, DC – May 6, 2013 - The American Thoracic Society has joined forces with the DRIVE4COPD campaign to host COPD Awareness Night during the Philadelphia Soul’s game on Saturday, May 18. The game will be televised nationally by the CBS Sports Network and available to over 100 million households.

“Raising awareness of the third-leading killer of Americans during this Arena Football League game is just the latest collaboration between the American Thoracic Society and the COPD Foundation,” said John Walsh, president and co-founder of the Foundation, which leads the DRIVE4COPD Campaign. “While first and foremost a medical organization dedicated to research and the latest scientific knowledge, the ATS has integrated the patient perspective into its programs in ways that are unique among associations of health care professionals.”

The COPD Foundation is a member of the ATS Public Advisory Roundtable, a highly effective partner in the Society’s efforts to raise awareness of lung disease and to help patients and their though research, education, and advocacy. Mr. Walsh was the first chair of the ATS Public Advisory Roundtable.

Washington, DC - March 11, 2013 - Bristol Motor Speedway today announced that NASCAR's K&N Pro Series East event at Bristol Motor Speedway, set for Saturday, March 16, will be known as the DRIVE4COPD 125.

The DRIVE4COPD 125 is part of a Saturday doubleheader at BMS that includes Jeff Foxworthy’s Grit Chips 300 Nationwide Series race. Practice and qualifying for the DRIVE4COPD 125 is Thursday, March 14 with the green flag set to drop at 4:45 p.m. Saturday, directly after the Grit Chips 300. Richard Childress Racing driver Austin Dillon, honorary ambassador for DRIVE4COPD, will serve as the Grand Marshal for the race.

WASHINGTON, DC – February 19, 2013 – The COPD Foundation announced the appointment of Richard Childress Racing driver Austin Dillon as the new Honorary Ambassador for the DRIVE4COPD campaign, the country’s largest public health initiative dedicated to raising awareness of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Dillon lost his paternal grandfather Stan, to COPD in May 2012, and this personal connection to the disease has given him the motivation to lead the charge in the fight against COPD.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 28, 2012 – The successful national campaign to increase public awareness of COPD changed organizational leadership effective March 23, 2012. Led since inception by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals Inc., a leader in developing medicines to treat COPD, the DRIVE4COPD campaign will now be led by the COPD Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the education, early diagnosis, research and enhanced therapy for people with lives impacted by COPD.

Ridgefield, CT, September 14, 2011 – Landmark public health campaign DRIVE4COPD today announced the unveiling of 24M: The DRIVE4COPD Monument, a visual representation of the impact of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in the United States. Reaching 14 feet at its highest peak and spanning half a football field, this first-of-its-kind monument comprised of 24 large-scale pinwheels to represent the 24 million Americans who may be living with COPD, was designed by internationally renowned artist and sculptor Michael Kalish.
