WASHINGTON, D.C./Bristol, TN – August 6, 2013 – The COPD Foundation (COPDF) announces that it will sponsor a weekend of educational and screening events for the public, August 23 – 24, 2013, at Bristol Motor Speedway, Bristol, Tenn., to raise awareness about chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a serious and progressive lung disease that is the third leading cause of death in the United States. Richard Childress Racing driver Austin Dillon, official spokesperson and honorary ambassador of the DRIVE4COPD campaign, the official health initiative of NASCAR®, will be on hand to show his support of families affected by COPD, and encourage more people to get screened for the disease, especially in Tennessee, which has the third highest rate of COPD in the country.

A booth featuring educational materials and giveaways will be staffed from 12:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, August 23 and Saturday, August 24. The public should visit the Corporate Display area, located near BMS Hospitality Village at the base of the ramps to the front stretch grandstands between the Speedway and Bristol Dragway, to learn more about the disease and ways they can help. Pins featuring the blue and orange DRIVE4COPD logo of the pinwheel will also be on sale at the Speedway World Gift Shop with proceeds going to benefit the COPD Foundation.
