DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (November 1, 2013) – NASCAR® announced today that it will lead a joint campaign with Official Partner DRIVE4COPD throughout COPD Awareness Month (November) to drive awareness and encourage fans to get screened for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). COPD, a debilitating lung disease, is the third-leading cause of death in the United States and affects as many as 24 million Americans but approximately half still remain undiagnosed. DRIVE4COPD has been the Official Health Initiative of NASCAR since 2010 and has been responsible for screening more than 2.7 million NASCAR fans.

“DRIVE4COPD’s mission to generate awareness and get people screened is one of extreme importance to NASCAR as it directly affects many of our fans,” said Jim O’Connell, NASCAR chief sales officer. “COPD is responsible for taking one life every four minutes. We share a passion with our partner to make our fans aware of this life-threatening disease and are determined to help get even more of them screened this month.”
